2014 Mission: Finding My Awesome

2014 Picture

I’m sure a lot of you are probably scratching your heads saying “Diana wrote a blog post?  I thought she gave that up!”

I have only made one post on this blog in the last several months, for a variety of reasons.  I don’t mind sharing them sometime, but I’m not going to do that today because it’s New Year’s Day and I want to focus on that.

2013 was a tough year in many ways.  There were ups, and downs, and I found some things and lost some things.  But the hardest thing for me is that somewhere along the way, I had a really, really bad thing happen.

I misplaced my Awesome.

Wow, can you imagine a more terrible thing for me, the girl who likes to say she is Busy Being  Awesome, to lose?  I mean dayum….I swear my awesome was lying around here somewhere but ever since the spring, I’ll be darned if I can find it! And that sucks.

Some people like to have themes for each year.  My friend Ishtar says her 2014 theme is Joy – she is determined to find more joy in her personal AND professional lives.  Other people I know are focused on peace, or family, or adventure. I’ve never had a theme or overarching goal for a particular year before, but this year I do.

2014 is about Finding My Awesome.

Who is in?

Have you ever misplaced your Awesome? What did you do to get it back?

  1. When you locate your Awesome, I’m sure it will be glad to see you. It must be very frustrating for the Awesome to remain unexpressed.

I won’t be joining you, because I never had an Awesome to lose. For me, 2014 will be about balance and gratitude. Gratitude, because when I’m grateful for whatever Life gives me, Life is much better. Balance, because I would rather maintain the health and fitness I have than stretch for more and lose some of what I’ve got.

    • Kevin, I love that you commented on this so quickly when I haven’t posted in forever. 🙂 I do dispute the notion that you don’t have an Awesome – being balanced and grateful sound like pretty awesome pursuits to me. I am sure you will do well at both of them this year!

  2. Yay! D is back!! 🙂

I’ve mentioned on my blog that I’ve never really been into the resolution thing, but really, last year, having the word “Success” hanging on the wall where I could see it from most of the common areas of my apartment helped me focus.

I write here http://bit.ly/1eWeueD and here http://bit.ly/1kNNwD9 about my WOTY. I’m not done figuring out goals, but I love Danielle LaPorte’s vision of starting with, “How do you want to feel?” and creating goals to align with that – and @Kevin, I think your Balance and Gratitude would fit in with that idea nicely, too. 🙂

  4. Dayum, I like “dayum”!

Diana, you haven’t lost your awesome. It’s there, still inside… but, it probably needs a shot of Espresso. After many attempts, bloodied foreheads and brick walls, and assaults on my massive ego, I have come to the realization that being my best is dayum near impossible on my own.

I salute your desire and quest to find Strength for your awesome. That will be Awesome, and I can hardly wait to see that… Dayum!

    • Chuck, thanks for your post. I love that you don’t think I lost my awesome. I actually decided recently that I agree with that – which is why instead of saying I lost my awesome, I say that I just misplaced it. Sort of like the car keys that you know you JUST HAD but now you need to run an errand and you can’t put your finger on them. I feel like my awesome is probably lying around pretty close to me, and if i take the time to hunt for it it will turn up pretty quickly.

Love you to pieces…and see you Saturday!
